Abstract:  This paper tries to identify problems and reviews the main debates on the hot theme of post-communist transition. Until we elucidate, until we bring light upon what post - communist transition means and until we answer to the question: transition to what and how, it is senseless to talk about “post-transition.” The post-communist transition is perceived most often and by most peoples as a transition to liberal democracy and capitalism. This paper reaches the following conclusions. The heritage of the past strongly presses on transition. The political crisis and the underdevelopment of the political system obstruct the reform. There are no recipes or models for a successful guaranteed transition. Alternative solutions should be adapted to the particular conditions of each country. Democratization is only an aspect of modernization. In order to be a viable solution, the Liberalism must be shaped according to the needs of large indite system transitions.
