  Article:   RAMAN STRUCTURAL INVESTIGATION OF IRON DOPED B2O3-K2O GLASS MATRICES.

  Abstract:  The influence of Fe2O3 content on the structure of 3B2O3K2O glass was investigated using Raman spectroscopy. At low content of iron ions the Raman spectra do not reveal any structural changes. Addition of iron oxide causes the increases of the number of non-bridging oxygen, the glass structure becomes more randomized and “loose” tetrahedra appear. A small number of chain-type metaborate and pyroborate groups are also present in this kind of glass. Iron ions act as network modifier in these glasses.
