Abstract:  This study returns to the question of the general notion of meaning (denotation) that is marked by names such as: C. S. Pierce, G. Frege, and F. Saussure. According to the tradition, meaning is always static. However current research - especially that of K. B. Jensen - emphasizes that Pierce''''s ontological view defines an evolutive notion of meaning. According to Dean C. Barnlund ''''s classical observations, communication is the evolution of meaning. The study initiates a polymorphic and polytrophic notion of meaning in an attempt to analyze the linguistic, the pictorial, and the emotive meanings in actu. The research of meaning is thus directed not by a postmodern methodological vagueness, but by the idea that it is more practical to comprehend and analyze meaning in a sense which is close to Plato''''s concept of multitude. This hypothesis seems to be further confirmed by data from neurophysiology.
