  Abstract:  The question is to know what make language’s unity, if we consider what make language evolve through time and space; as it is for Italian language, for instance, whom dialectal fragmentation is a feature. What allows me to maintain that I’m speaking the same language which is spoken by my interlocutor? Which criterion make our language be the same beyond dialectal differences? We think that Discorso o dialogo intorno alla nostra lingua by Machiavelli, through his study of Italian language, could enlighten this question.
