Authors:  GIANCARLO GERLINI.

Abstract:  The evolution of the French and Italian present participle and gerund can be ascribed to the disappearance of verbal and nominal endings which characterizes romance languages in general. In Italian both the noun and the verb are concerned while in French only the verb is affected.

Keywords: Italian, French, Present participle, gerund, inflections.
