  Abstract:  The Relationship Child / Grown-Up Person in the Neverending Story by Michael Ende. In this article, our intention is to analyze the complex relationships between generations existing between the child and the grown-up person in the best-seller The Neverending Story by Michael Ende. In spite of the first impression emphasizing that the privileged roles belong to the child, the story gradually reveals to us the importance of the grown-ups in Fantastica and in the Land of humans. Bastian and the shopkeeper, Bastian and his father, in the Land of humans, Bastian and the Dame Eyola, Bastian and Yor, the blind person, in Fantastica are some examples of this mutual and complementary relationship between distant, even extreme ages that, in the case of the couple Bastian / the shopkeeper are reflecting one another. The relationship between child and the grown-up person is even more complicated in the case of Childlike Empress who is, at the same time, a child and the eldest of all the creatures in her country. The friendship between Bastian and Atreju allows a complex and permanently constructing view on the relationship between generations. Both these characters and others illustrate well a mutual, complementary, sometimes intricate and very precise relationship between different and distant ages that search for one another, understand each other, shape and build one another.
