  Abstract:  Livret de famille de Patrick Modiano or the Writing of Memoria Disjecta. In his book, Livret de famille, Patrick Modiano reveals an incessant questioning of the status of memory, of its role and above all of its capacity to organise the real. Should memory seem an instrument for the quest of identity, along the text it becomes an oppressive instance which haunts the narrator unceasingly and prevents him from experimenting the present. Our investigation aims to foresee the relations established between memory and oblivion, between identity and the fragmented self so as to expose a permanent yet prolific disjunction between cultural and family memory under the sign of discordia concors. Set between the presence and absence of its referents, photography constitutes an element capable to engulf all the contradictory movements of the mondianesque writing: the ebb of recollection and the flow of oblivion, the real and the illusion, a personal history of Culture.
