  Abstract:  Etudier le descriptif comme mode ou principe d’organisation textuelle, ou la description au sein du discours littéraire, c’est être face à un type de textualité longuement sous-estimé par la critique littéraire. Celle-ci lui attribuait «injustement» une place secondaire dans son champs d’étude par rapport aux autres modes ou principes d’organisation textuelle, le mode narratif et le mode argumentatif, par exemple. Toutefois, ces deux derniers, et surtout le narratif, n’auraient pas de sens sans le descriptif (P. Charaudeau, 1992, p. 659). A l’époque moderne, des écrivains et des rhétoriciens allaient même jusqu’à lui adresser des critiques virulentes (J.-M. Adam, 1993, p. 5).
