  Abstract:  Que Saint-John Perse se réclame de l’exil ontologique, écrivant à partir de cet exil, et s’y maintenant comme étranger, c’est une des bases de sa poétique. De tout cela, il a été amplement traité, et je n’y reviendrai pas ici, sauf obliquement. En revanche, j’essaierai de réfléchir à son étrangeté. En effet, dès ses débuts poétiques, l’étrangeté de cette œuvre a frappé ses premiers lecteurs, et Valery Larbaud en parle, dans sa lettre du 6 avril 1911 à Léon-Paul Fargue, en termes de «singularité».
