Abstract:  Internal and External Factors in Morpho-Syntactic Changes. The article deals with internal and external factors and the part they play in the morpho-syntactic changes. The linguistic changes and variations can be the result of various factors, that traditionally were classified in two types: internal factors or from the interior of the language and external or from outside the language. The potential for the linguistic change can come from internal factors, but the external factors are those that decide if the innovations can improve themselves. A series of evolutions and linguistic (especially syntactic) changes can be caused also by the interaction of internal and external factors. The morphological and the syntactic changes occur more often as caused by internal linguistic factors than it is the case at other linguistic levels. The causes of the changes are more difficult to determine than at other linguistic levels. An important external mechanism of the syntactic change is the language contact. Some changes in the morpho-syntax of English can be ascribed to the Scandinavian influence, i.e. to external factor of the language contact.
