  Abstract:  Nous l’appelions Jean, son prénom traduit en français. Il était directeur du Département de français de la Faculté des Lettres depuis 1990 et il nous a quittés trop tôt, avant d’avoir soixante-deux ans. C’était le 23 août 2003, - la fin de l’été. Nous commencions « penser » la rentrée universitaire et rien ne laissait présager sa disparition soudaine, précédée d’une souffrance brusque et intense. Pris de court, nous avons tous été aussi désemparés que sa famille, touchés au vif par cette perte inattendue, alors que la consternation et le sentiment d’impuissance se mêlaient en chacun.
