Article:   THE LAST VOYAGE - A PILGRIMAGE BETWEEN WORLDS.

Authors:  CASANDRA CRISTEA.

Abstract:  We consider the study of the Last Voyage, as it appears in the Romanian folk culture, a suggestive manner of investigating the particular view that the traditional mentality had upon space. The post mortem universe cannot be physically controlled by the community, therefore the way people imagine this Great Way towards the other world is a mental configuration of a realm both necessary and frightening. The Romanian funeral texts - Fire trandafire, Cintecul Zorilor etc. - are a means of directing the deceased and creating for him the image of a space that is essential for his later existence. Moreover, this beautiful act of imagination offers an answer to the question about the influences that the space receives from the subjective human mind.
