Towards an online folk linguistics: what kind of spoken language, what kind of genres? Our aim is to show that the internet is a fertile ground for creating new more or less spontaneous metalinguistic folk-genres. They might be interesting for discourse typology and texts about language, demonstrating – through the endless corpus – the emergence of a new folk linguistics. We conclude by stating that the orality of these text is special (computer mediated) and it is represented by a special writing system (electronic writing). Numerous individual versions make generalizations difficult, but they show the multiple representations users have on the relation between written and spoken language, in the context of a free internet.

Keywords: metalinguistic genres, Internet forums, relation between written and spoken language, folk linguistics.
