  Abstract:  Jeune fille, Madame de Staël a assisté aux réceptions de sa mère et étonné par sa précocité intellectuelle les écrivains qui fréquentaient ce salon (Raynal, Grimm, l’abbé Morellet, Suard, Marmontel, La Harpe, Buffon…). Mariée, elle a reçu à son tour. Au moment de la Révolution, qu’elle a accueillie avec enthousiasme, son salon de la rue du Bac, à l’ambassade de Suède, a été le lieu de réunion des amis de la constitution anglaise; puis sur le lac Léman, à Coppet, propriété de M. et Mme Necker elle a établi son pied-à-terre. Rentrée en France en 1795, elle a rouvert son salon, mais a inquiété le Directoire qui l’obligea à retourner à Coppet. De nouveau installée à Paris, en 1797 dans son hôtel de la rue du Bac, elle a reçu ses anciens amis de Coppet: Mme Récamier, très liée avec elle, Mme de Beaumont, Fauriel, Camille Jordan et surtout Benjamin Constant.
