Abstract:  The first question that rises upon glancing at Caragiale’s name on a new book cover might be: What else could anyone write about this classic of Romanian drama? What novelty, what thesis, what arguments might justify an editorial aparition in times marked by an overproduction of books? With regard to the book under discussion, the needed captatio benevolentiae is ensured by the inciting courage of the publication itself, of the very existence of the argumentation. The positive expectation is confirmed by the solid argumentation which unfolds with every page turned by the reader. For the interpretation of Caragiale’s text, the author resorts to lexicometry. The author gathers for each number, the ensemble of their significance, he establishes paragraphs with these according to a variety of cultural codes and then verifies the correspondence of these significations with those within the work of Caragiale. It can be seen that each number is consonant with the cultural codes known and especially unknown to Caragiale.
