  Abstract:  Analysis of the Semiotic Material with Persuasive Goal in the Electoral Debates. The paper investigates the use of gesture and intonation in a persuasive type of discourse - the electoral debates. Our aim is to show that a proper analysis of the persuasive strategies should take into account the bodily behavior as well. Thus, the non-verbal and the verbal levels of political communication will be described and classified in terms of the persuasive strategies they pursue: logos, ethos or pathos. This paper isn’t a theoretical one. It is supposed to be a practical analysis of the persuasive strategies that appear in a fragment of the electoral debate which took place in Romania in November 2004. The protagonists are the two presidential candidates Traian Băsescu and Adrian Năstase.
