Abstract:  ABSTRACT. The „words” or „nonwords”, as interjections have been called along the centuries, keep stirring up the attention. Interjections seem to be a permanent challenge for the philosophers interested in the language theory, as well as for the grammarians. That’s why even today, there are many studies in different languages which try to analyse the interjection from a semantic, syntactic and pragmatic point of view. In Japanese, for instance, an interesting linguistic phenomenon draws the linguistics’ attention. What is remarkable in the Japanese vocabulary is the large number of interjections and their “affective” function that „personalises” this language which is considered an „impersonal” one by the Occidental scholars. Moreover, even if the border between the written and spoken Japanese is very well established from a lexical and grammatical point of view, interjections and onomatopoeia violate surprisingly this rule, shifting easily from oral to written. The status of interjections in Japanese is, no doubt, very different than in Romanian. Each of these languages gives another interpretation and that’s why we believe it would be interesting to find an explanation to this phenomenon.
