  Abstract:  Translation competence is defined by functionalist scholars as product focused. Translation with the purpose of intercultural business communication revolves around client’s specific communicative and business needs. For this reason we consider that translation competence as the competence of the translation profession must be product but also process focused. In the current article we identify and describe product and process sub-competences that are relevant for translation within a business environment. Thus, translation competence is defined as comprising a number of sub-competences as are organisational, communicative and research sub-competences also revision and documentation sub-competences. Such competences ensure task fulfillment on collaborative and textual contact.
