Abstract: Flexible Manufacturing Systems; a Step to Total Computerised Entreprise. The article deals with some of the basic aspects of Flexible Manufacturing Systems like the concept of flexibility, the origin and history of FMS development and finally, with the similarities and differences between FMS and JIT on one hand, and FMS and CIM/ CIB on the other hand. The main conclusion is that a FMS is an intermediate step from a JIT to a total computerized system, in order to obtain a sustainable competitive advantage; this is one of the most important issue for the future of any industrial firm, in every country. | |||||||
