  Abstract:  Lucrarea de faţă porneşte de la analiza structurii costurilor, în special a diferitelor sale elemente, continuând cu relevarea influenţelor acestora asupra rentabilităţii firmei. De asemenea, se propun câteva căi eficiente de diminuare a costurilor. Profitul şi rentabilitatea reprezintă expresii ale evoluţiei real pozitive ale unei societăţi comerciale cu diferenta că profitul este expresia absolută iar rentabilitatea este expresia relativă a evoluţiei pozitive a societăţii comerciale. În economia de piaţă, profitul este urmărit atât pe termen scurt cât şi pe termen lung pentru că, aşa cum remarca şi Helmuth Schmidt, profitul de azi se regăseşte în investiţiile de mâine şi în locurile de muncă nou create.
