  Abstract:  The present book is formed of two parts: I. Gradient flow in metric spaces, and II. Gradient flow in the space of probability measures. Apparently independent, the inclusion of them in the same book is motivated by the fact that the space of probability measures, treated in the second part of the book, is one of the main field of application of the general theory of analysis in metric spaces. The last years were marked by an intense research activity in this field, one of the leading schools being that from the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa headed by Luigi Ambrosio, one of the authors of the present book.
