Abstract:  The idea of homotopy appears in many branches of mathematics such as algebraic topology, differential topology, nonlinear analysis, variational calculus etc. Its importance comes from the invariance of some powerful tools, such as the induced homomorphism at the level of various homology/cohomology groups, the degree, the Conley index etc., on corresponding homotopy classes of maps or homotopically deformed spaces.
