  Abstract:  Într-adevăr, intervalul dintre 1541 si 1711 ocupă în trecutul ardelenesc un loc privilegiat de istorici, mai cu seamă de către cei maghiari. Tocmai acest segment de timp face si obiectul volumului al II-lea din Istoria Transilvaniei, ale cărui capitole le completează unsprezece istorici (Susana Andea, Ionuţ Costea, Anton Dörner, Călin Felezeu, Ovidiu Ghitta, Kovács András, Magyari András, Ioan-Aurel Pop, Doru Radosav, Rüsz Fogarasi Enik si Szegedi Edit). Faţă de volumul dinainte, care acoperea întreg intervalul dinspre începuturile omului si până la căderea Regatului Maghiar, terenul explorat se reduce acum drastic, sub raport cronologic, interesul investigaţiei îndreptându-se, cum se poate constata către epoca principatului autonom aflat sub dominaţia politică a Imperiului Otoman. Se poate recunoaste aici un accent suplimentar pe începuturile modernităţii înţelese ca inventare a unui tipar politic propriu, un omagiu adus operei politice a calvinismului maghiar si poate chiar o receptivitate faţă de soluţia transilvanistă de largă autonomie internă.
