Abstract:  During the dynamic 1960s-1970s the world experienced a new phase in the East-West conflict: the Cold War gradually turned into Détente, the confrontation into antagonistic cooperation. The Federal Republic of Germany developed, next to the Détente-concepts of the two superpowers (USA and SU) and the multilateral Détente-concept of the CSCE, two specific forms of Détente: the Ostpolitik and the Deutschlandpolitik. The following paper aims to provide an overview of the two concepts, their practical implementation, their successes and limitations.

Keywords: détente, ostpolitik, Deutschlandpolitik.
