  Abstract:

Importance of Salt Mining in the Formation of Salt Lake Basins in the Transylvanian Basin. The salt lakes from the Transylvanian Basin are grouped in 8 sectors; their age differs a lot, one is from the Roman period (over 2000 years), others are in the stage of evolution. Many of these lakes are anthroposaline, from where one may establish the importance of salt mining, which has an impact on the shape of the lakes, the number of them in every extraction point and, of course, on the future modifications of the basins.

Keywords: salt mining, “bell” mines, salt lakes, Transylvanian Depression, Romania.
