  Abstract:

The Limits of the Sustainable Development. As a newly appeared desideratum in the regional phenomenology, the sustainable development has in its structure a series of elements that consolidate its content and significations: natural resources preservation, environment protection and conservation, territorial cohesion, economic affirmation, social harmony. However, less attention has been paid to the limits of the sustainable development, as in the case of the cumulative effects upon the environment, resource exhaustion, regional disparities, social differences, demographical convulsions, economic voluntarism, analyzed and exemplified in the present paper. They act as inertial thresholds and, in the case of the amplification of their influence, even as obstacles that can attenuate or even block the process of sustainable development.

KEYWORDS: sustainable development, limits, regional phenomenology, protection and conservation
