Abstract:  Rural Tourism‚ Theoretical and Conceptual Aspects. The authors give a general and a synthetical view upon the rural tourism, as phenomenon and economic factor of the last half of century, and make an analysis of the rural tourism’s impact upon the tourism in general, and upon the regions in which it has become a viable alternative. The rural tourism is imposed through specific features, some contradictory, creating false appearances, some being noticed through other characteristics and stimulating the insular and the areal development. There are also analyzed the constituent elements (structural, systemic and functional), which particularizes the rural tourism among other categories of tourism. The role of Alps in the development of rural tourism in the countries belonging to the system is highlighted, as well as the imposing of the specific French terminology. In the case of Romania, though it has to outrun the handicap of time and of a system în transition, the rural tourism has found ways and modalities of supporting itself, often coming in contestation with an halting and inconsistent legislation, being extended first of all in the Carpathian space and then in the other regions with an original and an attractive offer.
