Abstract:  The Dimension of Zalău through Toponimy and Historic Measures. The Register of Varad (the register of the hall in Oradea) certifies, that there was a dwelling in the pattern of Villa Ziloc in the year 1220. In 1370 it was vallowed the priviledge of attending the yearly fair, and in 1473, thanks to the priviledge awarded by Matei Corvin, to be named a town (Oppidum Zylah), and further more in 1542 it gained the right to self governing. Up to the nineteenth century, the denominations of Waltenberg and Zillenmarkt were used in the toponimy of the locality, as a consequence to the colonis1ation with German population. Historical assertions of the dwelling go on throughout the Neolytic, with significance during the Bronze Age, the Iron Age and especially during the Classic Roman Ancients period.
