Abstract:  Changes in the Age Group Structure of the Population from the Contact Region between the Apuseni Mountains and the Transylvanian Depression (The Sector between Someşul Mic and Ampoi). The analysis of the population structure by broad age groups was realised taking into account the 1966 and 1992 censuses (the latest we have data from). A predominance of the young (33.6%) and adult (52.7%) age groups is noticed in 1966, contrasting with the aged (13.7%). Some changes are present in 1992 in comparison to 1966, less remarkable at the scale of the entire region, but quite obvious at the commune level. A general feature is a small decrease of the weight of the young (29.7%) and adult (52.5%) age groups, and an important increase, by more than 3%, of the third age (17.8%). On the whole, it is worth mentioning that the age group structure is relatively well balanced at the scale of the entire region, but there are significant territorial differences, especially on the basis of urban criteria. There are many peculiar situations in the rural space, especially related to the phenomenon of aging, often found in geographically isolated settlements. This tendency is somehow compensated by the increased weight of the urban young population.
