Abstract:  Half of Century of Research and Universitary Learning of the Geography of Tourism in Romania. The paper comprises an analysis of the stages and the cathegories of issues concerning the knowledge and research of the tourist phenomenon, from a geographical point of view. The early contributions of the 19th century are emphasized, when a larger class of specialists have been invloved. The contribution of the Geography departments was more and more significant after they were founded and the Geography of Tourism recognized as a part of the mother-science. The scientific geographical research is analysed step by step in its development as a true "school", remarkable for the good quality contributions. The seven national Tourism congresses, which took place between 1968 and 1977, are a good proof, and so are the PhD theses and some published papers having a larger nature. The development of the geographical universitary learning having Tourism departments fully contributed to the formation and preparation of specialists, either within long or short learning (College) period. Good quality courses and papers are at their disposal.
