Abstract:  The Social and Environmental Implications of the Industrial Activities in the Copşa Mică Area. The assessment of environmental impact of an area is very important for establishing the future evolution of natural and socio-economic environment. The diagnosis and prognosis of environmental evolution of an urban area has relevance just within the local context. From an environmental point of view, Copşa Mică town - an environmental hot spot in Romania - implies two important territorial aspects: a natural environment, which is affected by pollutants and a socio-economic environment, which is very fragile one. This paper presents the situation of these kinds of environments and analyses the human impact on them in the context of economic transition. We try to suggest that the correct evaluation of relations within the local environments and human pressures can lead to a strong local planning and a re-thinking of the economic potential of Copşa Mică.
