Abstract:  Some theoretical aspects regarding the environmental reconversion, referring to the solution to functional integration of coal mining area in Romania. The dimension of human intervention has grown exponentially together with the necessities of the our society, an aspect which turned into a rule for the contemporary geographical context. The accumulation of solid garbage, the abandoning of the mining areas in extreme conditions of ecological and mophohydrographical unbalance, the emission of toxic waste etc, has led to the transformation of the neighboring area of impact of the mining activities into a critical environmental unit. Thus, generating an artificial or artificialized area, determines not only morphological modifications but also topoclimate, hydrographical, hydrogeological, pedological and vegetation changes. This paper underlines the importance of the human factor in the process of environmental reconversion and possible strategic and procedure related errors generated by an incorrect application of the functional reintegration of coal mining areas, the short presentation of the effects on the main components of the geographical system.
