Abstract:  The Evolution and Repartition of the Population from Ţaga Commune, Cluj County, in the Period 1910-2002. The human presence in the settlements of Ţaga commune is known of remote ages. The archaeological discoveries followed by the documentary mentions proved wholly the habitation`s continuity of native population in the territory proper for the basin of Fizeşului Valley from Neolithic up to nowadays. Without a detailed description of this matter, a fact is to be noticed, that the localities of the analyzed commune appear registered in documents, with a single exception (Sântejude-Vale, coming from Sântejude in the year 1956), in the period of 12th-14th centuries: Sântejude (1173-1196), Năsal (1215), Ţaga (1243), Sântioana (1305), then Cesariu and Ghiolţ (both in 1326). A long period of time, the localities of the commune kept their initial identity. Because of the hearths` development in some of these settlements, a rather significant change took place in 1968, when the village Ghiolţ was included to Ţaga, and Cesariu to Sântioana. As regards the evolution of the inhabitants` number, it is to be underlined that in the year 1850 the population of the actual administrative-territorial conformation of Ţaga commune (Ţaga, Năsal, Sântejude, Sântejude-Vale and Sântioana) had 3485 inhabitants, the most increased number being registered at Năsal (907 inhabitants), followed, in order, by de Sântejude (804), Ţaga (672), Sântioana (484), Ghiolţ (403) and Cesariu (215 inhabitants). Gradually, in the next period, the population of Ţaga commune was situated in a growing position, until in 1956, when it registered 4536 inhabitants, after which, in the known conditions of rural and urban evolution from Romania, an accented downward curve followed, both at the level of commune, as to that of the component localities, its going being detailed presented in table 1 and fig. 1. As concerns the repartition of the population, the general density and the agricultural density were taken into account for the years 1956 (with the most increased number of inhabitants) and 2002 (the most reduced number of inhabitants). In the first case, the general density at the commune’s level was of 45,6 inhabitants / km2. In the second, it reached less than a half, respectively 21,6 inhabitants / km2, of course with differentiations rather significant from a component locality to another, while the agricultural density of the commune, for the same years of comparison, registered 1,31 ha/inhabitant and 2,75 ha/inhabitant.
