Abstract:  The Definition of Pond: a Limnological Approach of a Geographical Problem. The classic definition of the lake takes place in a approach of physical geography and spatialization. At the contrary the definition of pond in a prolific international bibliography lacks limnological methodology. Well, a pond is an inland body of water different from a lake, a pool or a swamp by its spatial and temporal running. The notions of vertical layering and horizontal zonation of the water are coupled in a new concept of dynamic connection between the volume of the pond and the nearest surroundings. We propose to characterize the temporal working of the pond with its acyclism, whereas lakes run seasonally and pools daily.
