Abstract:  The Paleogeographical Evolution of the Tibles Mountains. The Ţibleş Mountains are set in the northern group of the Oriental Carpathians and through their tectono-structural features, they represent a magmato-sedimentary unit, formed through the complex interaction between the orogenetic, magmatic and morphosculptural processes, in time and space. The tectonic units embodied in the Ţibleş Mountains are: the crystalline foundation, belonging to the Median Dacides, the sedimentary couverture of the trans-carpathian flysch of Maramureş and the intrusive magmatic corps that pierce these formations. The modelling processes have selectively acted upon the magmatic and sedimentary rocks, shaping the nowdays aspect of the Ţibleş Mountains. On the grounds of the successions of morphostructural and morphosculptural events, we can distinguish four stages in the evolution of these unit: the stage of the accomplishment of the crystalline fundament’s configuration, the stage of sedimentary structogen’s formation, the stage of intrusive magmatism and the morphosculptural stage.
