Abstract:  The analysis of geographical landscape using Geographic Information Systems. The intention of this work was to investigate the use of GIS technology in geographical landscape studies with the aim landscape analysis. Until recently the analysis of a holistic phenomenon such as landscape was difficult because of large volume of data and spatial relation that must have been established between thematic layers that were involved. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) provide the means to manage these large sets and to analyze and visualize the spatial relationship among elements. Three main approaches using GIS, remote sensing and satellite imagery are described: landscape metrics, thematic approach and regional approach.
