  Abstract:  The article is based on the direct experience of the author, who was, between 2007-2014, an electoral observer for several elections in different African states. The explanations are based on: the pace of the political transformations, the constitutional changes that acknowledge the possibility of gaining a third presidential mandate, the presence of international observers, the post-electoral violence and the postponing of elections.
