  Abstract:

The present article intends to describe the evolution of party system in post-communist Hungary. In order to understand the hegemony of Fidesz, which was established in 2010 after the parliamentary election, we have to look back to the last two decades. The concentration of Hungarian party system has finally led to the two-third parliamentary majority formed by a single party. To measure the concentration of party system I analyzed the results of the last six general elections and I used two indices: the Herfindahl–Hirschman Index and the Laakso-Taagapera effective number of parties’ index.

Keywords: party system, concentration, two-thirds majority, parliamentary election, Fidesz.
