  Abstract:

Starting from the premise that beliefs about health and illness are represented in the various types of vocabularies and, at the same time, they are produced by these discourses, my study focuses on how the problem of swine flu was represented in the discursive space of Romanian mass media. First, we shall deal with the mainstream media discourse, more specifically the official press releases on the subject. Second, our study will focus on the so called “alternative” media discourse of the bloggers, which call into question the subject of swine flu in a completely different style, generally called the conspiracy discourse.

Keywords: health, illness, swine flu, conspiracy theories, media discourse
