Abstract:  The 2008 US Election Campaign has been a historic one for many reasons. Not only did it bring the United States its first African‐American President, but it also provided an extraordinary show in the process. One of the most controversial aspects of this campaign was Governor Sarah Palinʹs nomination as the Vice‐Presidential candidate of the Republican Party. While her presence on the ticket may have been a step back for the Republicans, it certainly was a step forward for female politicians across America.
