  Abstract:  En avril 1990, dans la prestigieuse revue britannique Anthropology Today, Ernest Gellner publiait un court article intitulé «1789-1989, Perestroika and Anthropology», dont la conclusion était: «Pour l’anthropologie sociale, les événements majeurs de 1989 ne signifient seulement qu’un nouvelle variante de la condition humaine soit alors ouverte à la recherche – quoique ceci est important. Ils sont relevants aussi pour la base théorique fondamentale de la discipline. Ils offrent un énorme stimule pour l’effort de re-penser la condition sociale de l’homme»1. Ce projet vaste et ambitieux ne s’est constitué pas pourtant dans une mouvance bien soutenue de la connaissance scientifique. Les recherches et les considérations anthropologiques ont laissé souvent place – au moins en ce qui concerne la présence publique – à la réflexion politique et/ou administrative, ou à la plaidoirie idéologique, dont l’urgence et utilité n’étaient point questionnables. ...
