Abstract:  Analyzing the ethnic Hungarian cultural elite and its capital conversion in the early 90ies starts with the interpretation of “the moment of 89” as a time of founding minority political party. According to the empirical body of this research in spite of its unexpected character the “revolution” offered certain patterns for minority intellectuals to organize the Hungarian Democratic Union from Romania. This study deals with these patterns of founding the HDUR and some possible motives that made members of cultural elite to leave it.
