Article:   INTERVIEWING AS A METHOD OF DOCUMENTARY JOURNALISM.

Authors:  MARIANA CERNICOVA-BUCĂ.

  Abstract:

Interviewing as a Method of Documentary Journalism. Interviewing, alongside with observation and document consultation stays at the core of fact gathering in journalism. However, contemporary Romanian journalists give little thought to the reasons an interview is necessary as part of the professional approach in documenting an article, as shown in a survey conducted in July 2010. While it is time consuming and rendering emotionally coloured interpretation of facts rendered by people as sources, interviewing presents a large range of possibilities which make the method indispensable for the media. The paper also points at some of the most important ethical issues posed by the technique of working with people and concludes that only a thorough knowledge of the topic and of the technique grants success to the interviewer engaged in complex media writing.
