Abstract:  This study is comprised of two parts. In the first part, we investigated the first Turkish newspapers, published in Istanbul, within framework of Westernilazation in Ottomans. In the second part, we studied journalism and literature, the contribution of Şinasi who was a pioneering author and journalist of the 19th century. The first Turkish newspapers were Takvim-i Vekayi published with the order of Mahmut II. and Ceride-i Havadis published by English William Chirchill alongside the support of the state. However, the first newspaper of our history of journalism was Tercuman-i Ahval, because of the fact that it was published by independant individuals with the considerable contribution of Şinasi without any state support. As a conclusion, Şinasi occupied a privilaged place as a writer, philosopher and journalist and at the same time, he made a significant contribution to the Turkish literature.
