The study centers on some basic paradoxes that underlie the drama texts of a well-known author of Romanian origin, Matei Vişniec, such as the coexistence of the poetic and the parodic discourse. The dramatic work of Vişniec is also seen as an ongoing textual performance, very much aware of its historical and ideological context. Thus, the theatrical process of his writing for the stage transforms the prior modernist absurd and the empty loquacity of inter texts and of utopian theatre fantasies into a much more immediate drama, which is both acutely political and full of a pervasive subjectivity.
