Article:   POLITENESS DEVICES IN BETRAYAL BY HAROLD PINTER.

Authors:  DIANA-VIORELA IONESCU.

  Abstract:

The analysis of politeness devices is completed against the discourse of Betrayal, a play by Harold Pinter. Since humans take part in a never-ending dialogue with the alter or with the ego, the article draws attention to the centrality of politeness in the ‘iceberg-text’ of any usual conversation. Even if such conversations appear within the framework of fictionality, the meanings are not counterfeit, because they are not changed by the conventions of fiction.

Keywords: theatre, discourse, politeness, Harold Pinter
