Abstract:
The present work aims to investigate the corrosion behavior of bronze screws covered with natural patina used in assembling the statuary group of Mathias Rex, placed in the center of Cluj-Napoca, Romania, dating back to 1902. Corrosion tests were carried out in the absence and presence of inhibitors in a 0.2 g / L Na2SO4 0.2 g / L NaHCO3 (pH = 5) solution simulating an acid rain. The research put on evidence the inhibiting effect of 2 - mercapto - 5 acetylamino - 1, 3, 4 - thiadiazole on the naturally patinated artefacts in order to avoid their further degradation. The obtained results were compared with those recorded in the presence of benzotriazole, the most common corrosion inhibitor for Cu and bronze. Key words: bronze, atmospheric corrosion, natural patina, acid rain, corrosion inhibitors
