Abstract:  The cadmium content of some soil, tree leave, grape and lichens samples has been determined directly by flame atomic absorption spectrometry using the methane-air flame. The flame and instrumental parameters were optimized; the best results were obtained with the lamp current of 5 mA, at the observation height of 11 mm, with the stoichiometric flame. The detection limit of 0.05 ± 0.02 mg.L-1 was obtained at a significance level of 0.05. The cadmium content of environmental samples has been determined with the external calibration curve and the standard addition method. In all cases, the results of two methods agree within the quantification error.
