  Abstract:   Pedicularis L. (louseworts) represents the largest genus of the family Orobanchaceae. It comprises 600-800 species distributed mainly in the alpine, sub-alpine and arctic habitats of the Northern Hemisphere. Ten species are mentioned as occurring in the South-Eastern Carpathians, with P. baumgartenii being recognized as endemic.
