Abstract:  For studying intra- and extracellular locations of 137Cs, discs were cut from thalli of Peltigera membranacea, sampled in an unpolluted deciduous forest near Bristol, England and contaminated with 137CsCl in a laboratory experiment. The method of sequential elution was used and it was found that the 137Cs taken up by the lichen discs was located to a larger extent intracellularly than extracellularly. Nickel(II) chloride was a more efficient eluting agent than were strontium and cesium chlorides.
